After graduating from Deakin medical school in 2012, she moved from her hometown of Torquay to the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, where she commenced her training in Emergency Medicine. After realising the impact that this stressful workload was having on her life outside medicine, she took six months off to re-evaluate what was important. In this time, Jacinta undertook a Diploma in mountain medicine in Nepal, overcame her fear of heights to climb some of Europe’s highest mountains and completed a Masters in Sports Medicine. Upon her return she changed directions into the general practice training program and with its flexibility, designed the sort of work she wanted to do to maintain work-life satisfaction- which can only be a good thing for her patients. Jacinta is excited to be back from maternity leave to be working in the wonderful Vineyard Medical Centre part-time, while also continuing her other part-time role as a medical educator. If not working on an endurance sporting event over the weekends, Jacinta will be found loving life with her husband, daughter and their dog in the mountains running, climbing, skiing, cycling and drinking coffee.
